When I suggested a low carbohydrate diet to a client recently, she looked at me in disbelief and said, "Would you nutritionists make up your minds!" Her consternation was understandable. I think that if there is one thing I have learned about nutrition it is that there is no universal diet. We have biochemical differences that must be addressed individually.
I am offering a diet guide here that represents a paradigm shift from traditional high carbohydrate diets. Only 40% of calories should come from carbohydrates. A key factor is that at the beginning of a low carbohydrate diet you must choose carbohydrates largely from fruit and vegetables rather than from the starch group.
